Mouse Brain

Background

Different parts of the C57 mouse brain, including the cortex, hippocampus and cerebellum are dissociated enzymatically and mechanically into suspension of single cells. Next, the cells are seeded, and the astrocytes are enriched in vitro, using specific medium and cultural conditions. 

Mouse Astrocytes can be used to study: 

- Astrocyte structure and function, such as calcium activation, glutamate release and recycling

- Metabolic support of neurons

- Regulation of synaptic transmission

- Communication with oligodendrocytes
