Background | Bone Marrow (BM) contains hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells, which are self-renewing, proliferating, and differentiating into multi-lineage blood cells. Multipotent, non-hematopoietic stem cells, such as mesenchymal stem cells, can be isolated from human BM as well. These non-hematopoeitic, mesenchymal stem cells are capable of both self-renewal and differentiation into bone, cartilage, muscle, tendons, and fat. BM is drawn into a 60cc syringe containing heparin (80 U/mL of BM) from the posterior iliac crest, 25mL/site, from a maximum of four sites. Whole BM products are diluted with PBS. |
