AllCells, WiCell, and WARF Enter into Biomaterials License Agreement
(EMERYVILLE, CA) February 3, 2012 - AllCells, LLC a global provider of human primary cells and related services, announced it has entered into a biomaterials license agreement with the WiCell Research Institute and Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF). The agreement allows AllCells to cultivate the pluripotent cell lines derived from hematopoietic cancer cells obtained by the company.

Under the agreement WiCell will distribute the pluripotent cell lines to stem cell researchers and WARF’s non-exclusive license allows AllCells to use the pluripotent cell lines for non-commercial research purposes. The pluripotent lines were developed by Dr. Igor Slukvin and his research team at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

“Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines are emerging as an important platform technology for deriving specific biological cell types that would otherwise be difficult to source. These iPSC-derived cell types offer great potential for use as an enabling research tool for pre-clinical drug development,” said Dr. Jack Zhai, Vice President Marketing and Sales at AllCells and an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. “AllCells supports WiCell’s goal of making these cell lines available as a tool for advancing scientific research. We will continue to look for opportunities to establish license, product and service supply agreements with leading life science companies.”

“We are excited to add these new iPS cell lines to WiCell’s growing list of cell lines available through our Wisconsin International Stem Cell (WISC) Bank,” said Erik Forsberg, Ph.D., executive director of WiCell. “We look forward to working with AllCells and other organizations to offer pluripotent stem cell lines for research and clinical development.”

About AllCells, LLC
AllCells (www.allcells.com) is a global biotechnology company founded in 1998 to provide researchers with a reliable supply of biologically relevant, consistent quality primary cells that enable the advancement of scientific research in the areas of cell biology, oncology, virology, hematology, infectious disease and stem cell research. Unlike cell lines, which are typically mutated, transformed or immortalized, primary cells retain their original phenotypes hence better reflect in vivo morphology, metabolism and growth characteristics. These attributes are especially important for in vitro research applications in which in vivo-like models are critically important. By partnering with AllCells, investigators can dramatically reduce the time needed to isolate cells with guaranteed consistency, thereby improving the efficiency, accuracy and relevance of their research studies. AllCells is fully certified in accordance with local, state and federal requirements.

About WiCell
WiCell Research Institute is a Wisconsin nonprofit organization that was established in 1999 to advance stem cell research and development. WiCell distributes pluripotent stem cell lines through the Wisconsin International Stem Cell (WISC) Bank and provides comprehensive cytogenetic services (including karyotyping, FastFISH™ and array-based comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH)). WiCell also offers Quality Control testing services and clinical grade pluripotent cell lines to researchers worldwide.

About WARF
Since its founding in 1925 to manage a UW–Madison discovery that eventually eliminated the childhood disease rickets, WARF has been working with industry to transform university research into products that benefit society. As a private, nonprofit organization, WARF accomplishes its mission of supporting scientific research by patenting and licensing inventions arising from university discoveries. Since making its first grant of $1,200 in 1928, WARF has contributed more than $1 billion to UW–Madison through annual "margin of excellence'' grants and other funding.
