Background | Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma One of the more common, “intermediate-grade”, and aggressive types of malignant B-cell lymphomas, DLBCL can arise from an immunoblastic origin or transform from the FCC/FL (follicule center) large cell neoplasm, which can be further separated into large noncleaved (centroblastic) or large cleaved (large centrocytic) types. There have been numerous indications of chromosomal involvement, but DLBCL has been intimately associated with t(8;14) and t(14;18) pertaining to MYC and Bcl-2 rearrangements and some from Bcl-6 gene involving chromosome 3. DLBCL is also referred to as “histiocytic” lymphoma for the morphologic expression of the transformed lymphocytes and is the most frequent type of extranodal lymphoma with the least common bone marrow involvement. |
