Background | Multiple Myeloma (MM) is a type of incurable cancer formed by cancerous plasma cells. The plasma cells make antibodies that attack foreign microorganisms and viruses in the body. MM occurs when these plasma cells grow out of control, forming a tumor in the bone marrow. MM has various types of characterizations. An excessive amount of plasma cells can cause problems in the bone marrow (where blood cells are made). Consequently, the bone marrow may not be able to make enough red blood cells, platelets, or normal white blood cells to sustain normal body function. |
