Background | Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) also known as B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) is a slow growing cancer of the blood that affects older adults. CLL originates in the bone marrow and then spreads to the blood and lymph nodes. Characterization by flow cytometry demonstrates that these cells are CD5+ and CD19+. Prognosis of CLL is dependent on the cytogenic profile of the cancer. Deletions of part of the short arm of chromosome 17 (del 17p) or deletions of the long arm on chromosome 11 (del 11q) indicate a poorer outcome while deletions of the long arm of chromosome 13 (del 13q) favors a better prognosis. AllCells provides bone marrow and peripheral blood samples of newly diagnosed or relapsed/refractory CLL patients. |
