Background | Waldenström’s Macroglobulinemia (WM), also known as lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, WM is one of the rarest types of NHL. WM is a malignant small lymphocytic lymphoma with plasmacytoid features. While this disease has not been linked to single mutation, researchers have found a WM associated with the 6p21.3 locus. WM is characterized by large monoclonal IgM in the serum and symptoms, such as peripheral neuropathy and hyperviscosity syndrome. WM is distinguished from Multiple Myeloma by its indolent nature and less frequent bone marrow involvement. Patient monitoring is usually recommended before any necessary treatment. |
